Counselling involves meeting a qualified therapist, usually once a week. The most important factor is that you feel comfortable and safe with your counsellor. You should feel you can speak openly and honestly, and not feel judged.
Sometimes we need to talk to someone because of recent incidents that can seem overwhelming. Some people come into counselling to address longer term issues. Many people feel stuck, and feel they need counselling to help them feel differently about their lives, and support to make positive changes.
Counselling or therapy is an opportunity to explore emotional anxiety or distress, to understand how your issues are affecting you and your life, to help to discover the causes and find ways of making positive changes. It can help by exploring alternative ways of viewing the problem and different ways of coping. It can help with difficult decisions, and coping with change.
